The Northern Star
Role Play of the Seas
The Northern Star is classified as a Man O'War within the fleet. She sports heavy fire-power with a total of 80 cannons spaced over three decks and is nearly unmatched within her own might. Designed for combat over merchant runs, the Northern Star is a ship that most do not want to triffle with.
Her three massive masts raise well within the sky, spreading her sails to greet the wind as a welcomed friend. Though not one of the fastest ships within the fleet, the Gods have graced her with extraordinary luck thus far.
Below you will find the break down of each of her decks and the accomidations that she offers her crew.
The Main Deck:
The highest deck on the ship, also known as the poop deck. This unarmed deck is mainly used by officers, though is open to anyone. From here flags to signal to near by vessels are raised.
The Quarter Deck:
At the stern of the ship, the quarter deck is where many of the officer quaters are found. The Captain holds a cabin to himself in this area, so he can be on hand in an emergency quickly. The quarter deck is armed with 12 cannons. They are called 12 pounders because they each fire an orange sized cannonball that weighs approximately 12 pounds.
Forescastle:
This raised deck covered the main deck at the bows. Gangways linked it to the Quarter deck. Many of the ship's sails are controlled from this deck, as are four guns. Two 'smashers' are found on this deck, heavy fire power with a short range.
Upper Gun Deck:
Unlike the lower and middle decks, this deck is open to the weather in the middle. Three small boats are cradled andattched to beams within this open space. It is armed with 24 pounder guns, 15 along each side.
The Middle Deck:
Here the lighter 24 pounder guns fire smallish 11kg balls, about the size of a grapefruit. There are 14 guns on each side, and may of the crew slept and ate here. The Galley, the kitchen, is located on this deck. Officers can also choose to have cabins located at the stern of this deck area.
The Lower Deck:
This is the lowest gun deck. Down each side there are 15 32 pound cannons, which fire 14 kg balls the size of coconuts. When the ship is not fighting in battle it is this deck that offers the crew hammocks between the beams of the deck.
The Orlop Deck:
This deck overlaps the hold. It is primarily used for storage. Officers have access to this area, anyone else will need to gain access through them.
The Hold:
Located at the very bottom of the ship, the hold is like a giant warehouse. Here the crew store provisions for the voyage, such as food and drink. It is also on this deck where the prisoner cells are located.
